What is a bidding zone?

A bidding zone is the area within which electricity is traded at one day-ahead price. Most European countries are a single zone (Germany with Luxembourg, France, Spain, the Netherlands); Italy, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are split into several. Vantage Energies publishes statistics per zone, using the zone codes of the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform.

How are the monthly averages computed?

Each monthly day-ahead average is the arithmetic mean of every hourly day-ahead auction price in the zone, assigned to CET/CEST wall-clock days from the first to the last day of the month, as published on the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform (Nord Pool public data for the Nordic and Baltic zones). Negative-hour counts use the same hourly series. A month is published only once at least 95 % of its hours are in the database.
