Arenko to optimise 300 MW Iceni BESS at Hornsea 3

Arenko will deploy its optimisation technology at the 300 MW Iceni BESS, co-located with Ørsted's Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, per Renews.biz. The announcement adds another large co-located asset to the GB pipeline and puts Arenko alongside a growing list of software optimisers competing for behind-the-meter dispatch contracts on multi-hundred-MW projects.

GB BESS economics provided context for the deal. Modo Energy reported revenues of £70k/MW/year in March 2026, a figure that strengthens the investment case for assets like Iceni as they approach commissioning.

Elsewhere, Portugal is working toward a 3 GW battery storage target by 2030, per pv magazine. That is a steep ramp from the 20 MW commissioned by the end of last year. The Portuguese Association of Renewable Energy flagged licensing, grid access, and stable revenue streams as the conditions that will determine whether the target is met.
