BNetzA launches scenario framework consultation for 2027–2045

Bundesnetzagentur opened a public consultation on the scenario frameworks that will govern electricity and gas/hydrogen network planning from 2027 through 2040/2045. The frameworks set the demand and supply assumptions feeding into Germany's grid development plans, making them a foundational input for transmission investment across the German bidding zone.

BNetzA issued a separate statement confirming that, for another consecutive assessment period, no coal-firing ban (Kohleverfeuerungsverbot) is required. The finding indicates the German zone holds sufficient dispatchable capacity to meet security-of-supply standards without restricting coal plant operations, according to BNetzA.

The two publications together sketch a regulatory picture: long-run planning horizons are being formalised while near-term supply adequacy remains stable enough to avoid emergency coal restrictions. Stakeholders can submit responses to the scenario framework consultation via BNetzA's standard process; the regulator has not yet published a closing date in the headline release.
