Bundesnetzagentur opened its public consultation on the Netzentwicklungsplan on 12 June 2026, per the regulator's own announcement. The plan sets out the transmission capacity additions Germany needs to absorb its renewables build and manage north-to-south power flows, the structural driver behind years of elevated redispatch costs. No draft capacity figures or investment totals were disclosed in the announcement; stakeholders can submit input through the formal consultation process.
One zone north, Elia received approval for an amended Flemish investment plan on 9 June 2026. The Belgian TSO did not publish a revised capex figure in the announcement, but the approval clears the regulatory path for updated transmission and substation work in the Flemish grid area.
Both national processes sit inside the broader EU PCI framework, where the Commission is consulting on candidate cross-border projects across all infrastructure categories. Grid permitting and investment plan approvals across DE and BE point to coordinated, if nationally fragmented, transmission acceleration ahead of the 2030 renewables targets.
