Drax has acquired Flexitricity, a UK-based platform that aggregates distributed energy assets for participation in balancing and ancillary services markets. The deal, reported by Energy Live News on 2 April 2026, adds an established optimisation capability to Drax's existing portfolio.
Flexitricity operates across multiple flexibility services in the GB market, giving Drax a route into behind-the-meter and grid-scale battery dispatch alongside its conventional generation. No acquisition price was disclosed in the report.
The move follows a broader trend of generation-heavy utilities acquiring aggregation platforms to capture value across increasingly fragmented flexibility markets. Drax has not confirmed a specific expansion target for assets under optimisation following the acquisition.
