EEX runs first auction under Germany's new national emissions trading scheme
The nEHS auction marks the operational launch of Germany's standalone carbon market for sectors outside EU ETS coverage.

EEX conducted the first auction under Germany's Nationales Emissionshandelssystem (nEHS) on 2 July 2026, confirming the scheme is now operationally live. The nEHS applies to heating and transport fuels sold in Germany, sectors excluded from the EU ETS. It sets a carbon price signal that feeds into gas and heat dispatch economics across the German market. No clearing price or volume figure was included in the EEX release; those numbers are expected in a follow-up notice.
Also on the regulatory calendar: Energinet published a consultation on 28 June 2026 proposing changes to the Nordic methodology for allocating long-term cross-zonal capacity. The consultation targets the splitting rules that determine how corridor capacity is divided between forward and day-ahead timeframes across Nordic bidding zones. Stakeholder responses will inform any formal methodology amendment submitted to Nordic regulators.
