EEX will list EU ETS2 futures in July 2025, according to two press releases published on 28 April 2025. ETS2 covers buildings, road transport, and additional industrial sectors not under ETS1, with compliance obligations beginning in 2027. July listing gives market participants roughly 18 months of futures curve before first compliance year.
Simultaneously, EEX will delist EUAA products. The aviation allowance market has thinned materially since EUAA issuance was folded into the main ETS registry; EEX is consolidating its carbon product suite ahead of the broader ETS2 rollout.
In a separate development dated 7 May 2025, EEX's HYDRIX platform was selected by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) to run Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfDs), instruments designed to de-risk low-carbon industrial investment by guaranteeing a strike price against the ETS carbon price.
Also per EEX, a new study released 20 April 2026 concluded that German government plans to financially endorse new gas-fired capacity contradict both free-market principles and EU state-aid and electricity-market regulations. The study's conclusions land as Berlin finalises its capacity-market design, raising the prospect of European Commission scrutiny before any scheme goes live.
