Elia has completed the foundation structures for the Princess Elisabeth Island, Belgium's planned offshore energy hub, according to Renews.biz. Jan De Nul and DEME placed the 22,000-tonne structures in the North Sea. The milestone follows the first steel cut for HVAC installation works, which Elia announced.
The island is designed to aggregate output from Belgian offshore wind zones and feed it into the onshore transmission network, while also supporting future interconnector capacity. Completion of the foundations clears the path for above-water construction and the installation of HVAC equipment.
