Elia opens GFM BESS consultation as industry files technical feedback
YUSO and BSTOR have both submitted responses to Elia's grid-forming battery requirements process, signalling active industry engagement.

Elia's public consultation on additional technical requirements for grid-forming battery energy storage has drawn at least two formal industry submissions. YUSO, a Belgian energy supplier and flexibility aggregator, filed feedback acknowledging the depth of Elia's technical preparation while flagging its own positions on the requirements. BSTOR filed a separate contribution to the same process. Both are now on record via Elia's publication channels.
The GFM BESS consultation is consequential: grid-forming inverter specifications directly affect how batteries can provide synthetic inertia and fast frequency response in low-inertia grids. Getting the technical thresholds wrong (too tight and assets can't qualify, too loose and grid support is inadequate) has real revenue implications for project developers across the Belgian bidding zone.
For wider context, Modo Energy's Q1 2026 European BESS Capital Markets Report and its GB buildout tracker (5.6 GW at end-Q2 2025) illustrate the investment volumes now riding on regulatory frameworks like Elia's. Per Modo Energy and Elia publications, the pipeline is large enough that GFM technical rules set today will shape asset design decisions for projects commissioning through the late 2020s.
