Elia has announced a solution covering nearly 800 companies that had been unable to connect to the Belgian electricity grid due to congestion. The TSO has not yet published the full technical breakdown, but the scale, close to 800 queued applicants resolved in one move, points to a systematic allocation or flexible-connection framework rather than individual case handling.

In a parallel announcement, Elia disclosed a new planning tool designed to support grid connections for projects that are not yet formally identified. The tool is intended to let the TSO model future connection demand ahead of project submissions, reducing the lag between capacity development and application intake.

Taken together, the two announcements suggest Elia is moving toward anticipatory grid planning. Belgium has faced sustained connection pressure as industrial electrification and renewable buildout accelerate. How the ~800-company solution is structured (whether through conditional access, redispatch obligations, or capacity reallocation) will determine its replicability for other congested zones.
