EnBW confirmed a €500m loan to fund construction progress on SuedLink, the HVDC corridor running from Schleswig-Holstein to Baden-Württemberg. The facility is backed by EIFO, Denmark's export and investment finance body, per Renews.biz reporting on 9 July 2026. No maturity or pricing terms were disclosed.

SuedLink is co-developed by TenneT and TransnetBW and has been designated a Project of Common Interest under EU rules. The line is designed to carry up to 4 GW of predominantly offshore wind generation southward, relieving chronic north-south congestion that has cost German balancing markets billions in redispatch over recent years. A €500m tranche is a meaningful step but partial: the full project cost is estimated in the double-digit billions.

The financing news lands alongside ACER's published Opinion on the ENTSO-E/ENTSOG draft TYNDP 2026 Scenarios Report, in which the regulator calls for EU infrastructure planning scenarios to be more transparently aligned with energy and climate targets. The two developments together signal continued institutional momentum behind long-lead transmission investment across the continent.
