ENGIE announced nearly 400 MW of new battery storage projects across Europe, per Energy Live News. The announcement adds to a growing pipeline of utility-scale BESS at a moment when per-MW revenues in at least one major zone are under pressure.
In the GB zone, BESS revenues dropped to £47k/MW/year in December 2025, according to Modo Energy's monthly index. That figure reflects conditions in a single zone and a single month, but the direction of travel is clear: as installed capacity grows, wholesale and ancillary-services revenues per MW compress.
Modo Energy has also published a Top-Bottom spread methodology for benchmarking European battery revenue across zones. It uses the gap between peak and trough intraday prices as a proxy for arbitrage opportunity. With nearly 400 MW of new ENGIE capacity entering European grids, TB spreads and capture rates will be the metrics to watch for whether new assets can clear their revenue hurdles.
