A fire broke out in a Siemens Gamesa turbine at Orsted's Greater Changhua 4 offshore wind farm, per Recharge News and Renews.biz. Orsted confirmed it is probing the incident and has isolated the affected unit. An exclusion zone has been established around the array.
Greater Changhua 4 is a 42-turbine offshore installation. The extent of damage to the affected turbine and any wider impact on array output have not been disclosed by Orsted at time of publication. No cause has been confirmed.
The incident is the latest in a line of turbine fire events to affect offshore assets in recent years, placing further scrutiny on hardware reliability for large-scale offshore fleets.
