German solar hits record 12 TWh in July, topping June's first-ever 11 TWh month
Back-to-back monthly records show accelerating PV output in the German zone as summer generation peaks.

German photovoltaic systems delivered 12 TWh to the public grid in July 2026, surpassing the previous monthly record set just weeks earlier. June had been the first month ever to cross 11 TWh; July's figure pushes the bar higher again. Both records belong to 2026, compressing what had been a gradual upward trend into a single summer.
The back-to-back prints matter for market positioning. Higher monthly volumes increase solar's share of baseload hours, adding downward pressure on midday prices in the German bidding zone. The scale also raises the relevance of curtailment risk and BESS co-location economics as grid absorption capacity is tested more frequently.
Separately, Modo Energy reported that European solar capture rates recovered year-on-year in Q2 2026. The recovery is a signal that the cannibalisation effect that weighed on 2025 revenues eased at least partially across key zones. July's record volume will test whether that recovery holds through Q3.
