Berlin will prolong fee relief for offshore wind, shielding generators from full grid cost allocation.

Germany is moving to extend offshore grid fee exemptions, Renews.biz reported on 3 June. The exemptions shield offshore wind generators from bearing a proportionate share of grid costs, a relief mechanism that has been in place to support offshore buildout under German energy law.
The extension lands alongside two other regulatory signals from Brussels. The European Commission announced a new strategic roadmap for digitalisation and AI in energy that will include a cybersecurity risk assessment of solar and wind installations across the EU, per pv magazine (4 June). Separately, Reuters reported on 3 June that the EU is preparing energy efficiency standards for data centres, responding to concerns over soaring power demand from AI-driven load growth.
Taken together, the three moves reflect a regulatory agenda that is simultaneously trying to accelerate renewable deployment, lock in investor economics through continued fee relief, and address systemic risks (grid security and demand-side pressure) that have grown alongside the energy transition.
