Latvia's solar capacity passes 1.5 GW after record 2026 build

Latvia's cumulative solar capacity has passed 1.5 GW after approximately 600 MW of new installations in 2026 alone, per pv magazine. That single-year figure already exceeds every previous full-calendar-year record for the Latvian zone.

The build translated directly into dispatch leadership: solar ranked as Latvia's largest electricity source in both May and June. That is a notable threshold for a Baltic zone where wind and hydro have historically dominated the generation mix. July figures are not yet available, so whether solar held that top position through the summer peak cannot be confirmed.

Also in European solar markets this week, developer European Energy's 90 MW Cerano Energreen project in Italy secured a 20-year FerX Contract for Difference, per Renews.biz, locking in long-run revenue under Italy's incentive framework.
