Nordic Baseload Power has formally approached the Swedish government for support to build a nuclear power plant in southern Sweden, adjacent to the Danish border, according to Reuters. The move targets one of Sweden's most import-dependent price zones and comes as Stockholm has actively reversed course on nuclear policy, lifting previous bans on new reactor construction.

Southern Sweden (SE4) routinely trades at a premium to northern zones and depends on interconnectors to Denmark, Germany, and Poland to balance supply. New baseload generation in that zone would directly reduce that import exposure. Whether the project advances depends on what form of state support (loan guarantees, contracts for difference, or direct subsidy) the government is prepared to offer.

No reactor type, capacity, or commissioning date has been disclosed per the Reuters report. The request nonetheless marks a concrete step beyond policy statements: a private developer putting a specific site and a government ask on the table.
