Octopus Energy has acquired BD Energy, a Danish automated power trader, according to Reuters. The move gives the UK-based energy group a direct algorithmic trading presence in the Danish zone and a platform applicable across European short-term markets.
BD Energy focuses on automated, data-driven execution in intraday and near-real-time segments, where manual trading desks are increasingly at a disadvantage. Octopus has been expanding its European commercial operations beyond retail, and this acquisition adds a specialist short-term trading capability that complements that strategy.
No financial terms were disclosed. The Reuters report does not specify which bidding zones BD Energy currently trades or what volumes it handles.
