Ofgem published its call for input on Window 1 Long Duration Electricity Storage licence conditions on 21 July 2026. The regulator is seeking views on minded-to positions, a stage where its preferred framework is already drafted, leaving respondents to contest specific clauses rather than shape overall direction. The special licence conditions will apply exclusively to projects accepted under Window 1 of the LDES support scheme.

The publication lands as transaction activity picks up in European storage markets. Capwatt, a Portuguese developer holding around 2 GW of storage pipeline, sold a Spanish BESS project, per Renews.biz. Deal terms were not disclosed. The two developments together signal regulatory scaffolding tightening in Great Britain while asset turnover accelerates on the Iberian Peninsula.
