Portugal delays renewables-plus-storage auctions after consultation

Portugal has postponed its paired renewables-plus-storage auction programme after completing a public consultation, per pv magazine. The tenders will allocate 1,050 MVA of grid injection capacity split across two tracks: 750 MVA reserved for standalone batteries and 300 MVA for renewables projects with co-located storage.

The delay does not cancel the process. Portugal's grid operator is still preparing the tender procedures, and the auctions form part of a broader national push to expand storage and absorb higher shares of variable renewable output. No revised timeline has been published as of 23 September 2026.

Separately, a Frontier Economics analysis flagged by Renews.biz suggests that indexation of German offshore wind contracts could reduce costs by €4.4bn by 2030, a regulatory design question that is gaining traction in Berlin as procurement volumes rise. The two items together point to active regulatory reshaping of storage and offshore procurement frameworks across the Iberian and German zones this week.
