Red Eléctrica (Redeia's transmission subsidiary) has received operational authorisation for expansions at two 220 kV substations in Toledo, completing works at Calera y Chozas and Torrijos simultaneously. Each site gains two new 220 kV bays, with a combined spend of approximately €3 million.
Calera y Chozas is designated a key transmission hub for energy-intensive consumers in the region. The Torrijos expansion serves a different load profile: it provides grid connection for the forthcoming Castilla-La Mancha–Extremadura railway corridor, a strategic electrification project that depends on this substation capacity to proceed.
Both schemes sit within Spain's Electricity Transmission Grid Plan and qualify for NextGenerationEU funding under the national Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. No further substation capacity figures were disclosed in the Red Eléctrica release.
