New research scrutinises the 2021 Crown Estate Round 4 seabed rights auction and concludes that the lease fees agreed then may render projects unviable inside AR8, the next UK offshore wind allocation round. The tension is structural: developers bid aggressively for seabed rights in 2021 under different cost and revenue assumptions, and those fixed obligations now sit uncomfortably against AR8 strike-price ceilings. Renews.biz reported the findings but has not published the full dataset.
Elsewhere in the European wind pipeline, Nordex announced 175 MW of new onshore contracts, spread across 34 turbines in the French, Portuguese, and Spanish zones. The order mix signals continued developer appetite for Iberian and western European onshore capacity. German developer PNE confirmed the sale of its 153 MW Karolew project in Poland, with the asset targeting ready-to-build status in 2029, adding to a growing secondary market for late-stage Polish wind development rights.
In Scotland, SSE finalised port-selection decisions for its offshore wind mega-project, giving a named Scottish port a significant fabrication and logistics role, per Recharge News. Supply-chain localisation choices at this stage typically lock in cost structures for the project's construction phase.
