Ørsted inaugurates 913MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 as Hamburg WindEnergy opens

Ørsted and Nuveen inaugurated Borkum Riffgrund 3, marking a major milestone for the German offshore zone. The 913MW project sits 72 kilometres off the North Sea coast and is among the largest offshore wind completions in Europe this year, per Renews.biz.
The inauguration coincided with Hamburg WindEnergy 2026, where several deals and policy statements landed in quick succession. Navaris claimed 304.5MW in a German onshore tender, spread across eleven projects and 46 turbines. Vestas secured a separate 200MW supply contract with OX2 covering 35 EnVentus turbines in Finland and Poland.
On the policy front, Ørsted's chief executive used the Hamburg platform to argue that Germany should reduce its domestic offshore wind ambitions and import capacity from abroad instead, per Recharge News. RWE simultaneously called for greater indexation in Contract for Difference structures to sustain offshore expansion, while TotalEnergies announced a new integrated unit combining renewables, storage, power marketing, and offshore wind activity specifically for the German zone.
