Shell has completed the divestiture of Sonnen, its German residential battery storage subsidiary, to Tiven, described by pv magazine as an asset manager and family office. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Tiven reportedly intends to restructure Sonnen, though no specifics on product strategy, headcount, or market positioning have been made public. Sonnen has operated as one of the most recognisable brands in the German home-storage segment under Shell's ownership.

The sale comes as the broader German BESS market is expanding rapidly. Separately, Modo Energy reported that utility-scale battery capacity growth in Germany hit a record high in 2025, suggesting the residential and grid-scale segments are on divergent ownership trajectories even as deployment accelerates across both.
