Spain and Netherlands unlock over $1 billion for renewable hydrogen

Spain's government has directed €274.2 million to four renewable hydrogen projects. Combined, those projects carry 102.27 MW of electrolysis capacity, per pv magazine.
The European Commission approved a €780 million Dutch scheme designed to underwrite renewable hydrogen production at scale. The Netherlands scheme is a national-level aid instrument, clearing state-aid rules under EU competition law. Together, the two announcements put more than $1 billion in public funds behind green hydrogen projects across two zones in a single cycle.
The back-to-back approvals reflect the current EU posture: member states are moving support from pilot commitments to large-scale electrolyser deployment, with Brussels acting as gatekeeper on state-aid compliance rather than primary funder.
