Spain has revised its grid investment plan upward to over €17 billion through 2030, according to Reuters. The increase signals that the Spanish zone is accelerating transmission build-out to absorb growing renewable capacity and reduce congestion.
In Italy, Terna secured €1.5 billion in financing for its Adriatic Link project. The EIB, SACE, and Intesa Sanpaolo are the three lenders. The Adriatic Link will connect the Italian peninsula's Adriatic coast, improving north-south transfer capacity within the Italian zone and strengthening regional interconnection.
Taken together, the two announcements reflect a broader push across southern Europe to expand grid infrastructure. For traders and asset managers, tighter interconnection and higher transmission capacity in the Spanish and Italian zones will affect congestion patterns, zonal price spreads, and renewable capture rates through 2030.
