Spain's renewable output hits 53.6% share in August 2026

Spain's electricity demand rose to 23,137 GWh in August 2026, a 3.7% increase versus August 2025 in gross terms and 2.4% after adjusting for working patterns and temperatures, according to Red Eléctrica. Year-to-date through August, the Spanish zone has consumed 175,858 GWh, representing 2.8% gross growth and 1.7% adjusted growth relative to the same eight months of 2025.

Renewable technologies generated 13,640 GWh in August, an 11% year-on-year increase, securing a 53.6% share of the total generation structure. Solar PV led the mix for the fifth consecutive month. Self-consumption installations added an estimated 1,600 GWh on top of metered generation, a figure Red Eléctrica notes is excluded from its main generation chart.

The combination of accelerating renewable output and steady demand growth points to tightening capture-price pressure for solar assets in the Spanish zone, particularly through the summer months where PV consistently dominates the merit order.
