Spain's SRAD demand response auction clears 1,775 MW for H2 2026

Red Eléctrica auctioned active demand response capacity for Spain's peninsular system on 2 June, clearing 1,775 MW for H2 2026. The result is a 50 MW step up from the 1,725 MW allocated in the equivalent H1 auction, but falls 24% short of the 2,339 MW the specifications required. Results are published on the ESIOS platform.

Successful bidders, predominantly providers of 1 MW or more operating through an energy supplier active in the electricity market, will receive €42.62 per allocated MW per hour for standing ready to curtail load. When the service is actually called, settlement shifts to the prevailing tertiary regulation price for that interval, linking demand response directly to real-time balancing costs.

The auction is the first to run under the revised Operating Procedure 7.5. The CNMC-backed amendment, gazetted on 15 May, targets tighter optimisation of both allocated volume and marginal price. The persistent capacity gap (564 MW unmet in this round) will be a key metric to watch as the revised procedure beds in across future SRAD auctions.
