Red Eléctrica has confirmed that the full interconnection between the Spanish peninsular system and Ceuta is now operational. Transmission infrastructure managed by Red Eléctrica was completed in December 2025. The first circuit was energised on 13 March 2026, distribution facilities followed on 30 June 2026, and synchronisation tests were completed on 22 July. The link has already demonstrated its function in practice: it prevented at least one supply interruption in the Ceuta system before formal completion.

In the UK, Prime Minister Burnham is launching Great British Grid, a publicly owned company, per Reuters and Renews.biz. The stated objectives are reducing energy costs and speeding up connection queues, two constraints that have held back renewable capacity additions across the GB zone for several years.

On the Iberian peninsula, eRoots published a digital grid map projecting where Spain faces binding capacity constraints and renewable curtailment risk in 2027. The platform integrates grid topology, generation data, market signals, and permitting records. Analysts assessing site selection or storage co-location for projects targeting 2027 commissioning now have a forward-looking constraint layer to work with.
