Italy's TSO Terna has secured authorisation for the Bolano–Annunziata power line, the high-voltage connection between Calabria and Sicily. The link targets the SA–SI interconnection, Italy's most persistently congested internal boundary and a driver of sustained zonal price spreads between Sicily and the rest of the peninsula.

No in-service date was disclosed in the Terna release. Authorisation in the Italian permitting process is a distinct milestone from construction approval, but it is the critical step that unlocks procurement and detailed engineering. Terna has flagged the Sicily–mainland corridor as a priority investment across multiple national development plans.

For market participants, tighter capacity on the SA–SI border has historically suppressed renewable capture prices in Sicily and inflated balancing costs. Closing that gap would reduce curtailment of the island's growing solar and wind fleet and compress the zonal spread.
