Three BESS projects advance across Europe

Three separate BESS milestones landed across Romania, Germany, and Scotland, with the Romanian project dated 10 September 2026. Econergy switched on its Părău 1 project in Romania: a 70 MW/141 MWh battery co-located with an existing 92 MW solar plant, creating a 162 MW hybrid site. The system runs fully merchant, able to charge from the grid during low or negative price periods. Econergy is projecting €9.7 million in storage revenue from the asset.

In the German zone, Vattenfall gave the green light to a 254 MW/1,000 MWh project at Brunsbüttel. At that scale it becomes the company's largest battery to date. Meanwhile, Scottish Ministers granted consent to Island Green Power's Abbotshaugh Energy Storage project at 500 MW, adding to a growing pipeline of large-scale storage in the GB market.
