UK clears 600 MW BESS at Beacon Fen as Masdar brings Rochdale online
Two separate UK battery storage milestones landed, adding capacity at both the planning and operational stages.

The UK government granted a development consent order for Beacon Fen Energy Park, authorising construction of a 400 MW solar farm alongside a 600 MW BESS. The co-located configuration is one of the larger storage approvals in the GB pipeline and signals continued regulatory support for hybrid infrastructure at scale.
Separately, Masdar confirmed that its Rochdale battery facility, rated at 35 MW / 70 MWh, has entered operation. Per Renews.biz, Rochdale is Masdar's second operational BESS project in the UK, expanding the company's active GB storage footprint beyond its first site.
The two developments were reported by pv magazine and Renews.biz. Beacon Fen now moves from planning into a construction timeline, while Rochdale is already available for dispatch and grid services.
