The regulator has approved Nord Pool's trading platform for the UK-Norway power cable, clearing the path for commercial flows on the North Sea Link interconnector. The approval covers the mechanism through which capacity between the GB zone and the Norwegian bidding zones will be traded, a prerequisite for day-ahead and intraday scheduling.
The North Sea Link is the longest subsea interconnector in the world, running between Blyth in the UK and Kvilldal in Norway. With the trading platform now approved, market participants in both the GB and Nordic zones gain a direct route to arbitrage between hydro-dominated Norwegian prices and GB power prices.
In Italy, Terna received separate authorisation for a variation to transmission lines feeding the electrical substation in the municipality of Montecorvino. The scope is local, but it reflects ongoing permitting activity across the Italian grid.
