Vestas and Nordex unveil larger onshore turbines at Hamburg 2026
Two major OEMs launch next-generation onshore models as the industry pushes for higher energy yields per site.

Two OEMs used Hamburg 2026 to push onshore turbine size further. Vestas launched the V182, targeting up to 6% more annual energy production compared with existing models. The V182 rotor diameter positions it among the largest onshore units Vestas has brought to market. Nordex followed with the N193/7.X, a model in the 7 MW-plus class with series production set for 2029. Neither manufacturer disclosed pricing or firm order volumes at launch.
The back-to-back announcements reflect a broader push by European OEMs to extract more yield from constrained onshore sites, reducing the levelised cost of energy without requiring new grid connection points. Larger rotors improve low-wind performance, a priority in mature European markets where the best sites are already developed.
On the supply-chain side, freight forwarder Deugro reported that its dedicated wind logistics terminal in Antwerp completed its first vessel discharges in July 2026. The hub is designed to handle oversized onshore and offshore components, addressing a recurring bottleneck as rotor and nacelle dimensions grow.
