The IAEA brokered a ceasefire that allowed Europe's largest nuclear plant to resume grid connection for the first time.

Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant has been reconnected to the Ukrainian electricity grid, per Reuters, after the IAEA facilitated a ceasefire agreement around the facility. The plant has been offline from a generation standpoint for an extended period, but its grid disconnection added a separate layer of operational risk: without an external power supply, reactor cooling systems depended on diesel backup. Reconnection removes that immediate vulnerability.

For European power markets, the development is a watchpoint rather than an immediate price driver (Ukrainian exports to ENTSO-E are limited by current synchronisation arrangements), but it materially reduces tail-risk around a nuclear safety incident that could have triggered regulatory responses across the continent.

In a separate regulatory action, Ofgem on 15 June approved modified access rules and a revised charging methodology for the Viking Link interconnector, the 1.4 GW high-voltage direct current link between Great Britain and Denmark. The changes were made pursuant to Standard Licence Conditions 10 and 11A of the Electricity Interconnector Licence. No effective date for the new rules was stated in the published decision.
